2001 Porsche Boxster S

The prancing horse on the Porsche badge is very similar to the Ferrari prancing horse? For Porsche, it makes sense: it's actually integral to the coat of arms for the city of Stuttgart, Porsche's home. Ferrari only uses it because an Italian fighter ace shot down a pilot over Stuttgart in WWI, and the ace's mother told Ferrari to use the horse as good luck.

For consignment is a Boxster S. the name coming from its engine configuration of flat or a box, and the ..ster coming from roadster. This beauty has 42,618 original miles and is in great condition. A convertible that pulls no punches, and a power plant that floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee, this James Dean era Porsche inspired design is ready to drop its top and go for an exercise session on a winding road.

Exterior
Guards Red covers well-heeled and straight panels which mind their gaps. A bulbous front bumper has teardrop pooling headlights imbedded aerodynamically into their front fenders floating above. The hood which is the trunk stowage area slinks rearward toward the windshield. 2 wide doors swing way out to allow access to the tight but secure passenger compartment. More bulbous design even more exaggerated for the back of this car reminiscent of the old 914 design. An air intake on the rear quarter, and dual chrome tipped exhaust protrude from, the center of the bulb. A power black cloth convertible top with rear glass works flawlessly, and 18-inch Sport Classic 2 wheels are all around. And the bell rings to end the exterior round.

Interior
Beautifully contrasting the exterior is yards of Savannah Beige leather and vinyl. This material wraps ergonomically perfect buckets that are power actuated and heated. Door panels appear to be moving with their sleek design, and mixture of the Savannah Beige and black. Directly behind the buckets is a contour matching leather wrapped roll bar, and an electronic window that keeps air from buffeting the passengers when the top is down. A console bathed in red and a mixture of the Savannah leather, races towards the dash which is simple curved design in the tan and black. The ring girl prances around with the Drivetrain round sign....

Drivetrain
Mid-engine would best express this car as it is in front of the rear trunk storage area. It is a 3.2 Liter opposing 6 cylinder and is fed by electronic fuel injection. A 6-speed manual transmission feeds power to a 3.50 rear. This combo can deliver a knockout punch.

Undercarriage
Clean with some patina, but devoid of rust underneath. All packed together and functioning well, 4-wheel independent suspension and power disc brakes are noted.

Drive-Ability
A kick in the seat of your pants would best describe this car. After a quick start and slight warmup period, I flung it in to gear, popped the clutch and I was off. Great handling, steering grabbing acceleration, and what a great sound only a Porsche can deliver. All functions were functioning very nicely. You might say my test drive allowed me to hook, uppercut, cross and jab as I tested it around the Classic Auto Mall test blacktop.

Overall a very nice example of a 986 Boxster S. Low mileage, very clean, convertible, that runs like a clock, and will have the car beside you on the ropes very quickly. Saved by the bell...darn it!
